About the folk
style dance in Ukraine: The Dance of the Zaporozhian Cossacks is a classic Hopak dance. This is an exact letter for letter transliteration
from Ukrainian with the root word hop imitating the sound of a jump, bounce, skip! It is a stylized but
faithful presentation of Cossacks celebrating at their Sich in the Dnieper River at Zaporizhzhia (above the rapids). There are other folk dances. The Kolomeyka is a social dance style named
for the old city of Kolomyya in south western Ukraine where it was created. This dance is enjoyed during festive occasions such as holidays, marriages, celebrations. Here you see young Ukrainians
enjoying their party and traditional dance.
