This page of the Ukrainian Children's Suite is dedicated to the Street Children of Ukraine.

I believe that Ukraine's President Yushchenko is a good and sincere man. I believe he is sincerely holding out hope to the Ukrainian Orphans.

That is long range. Right now the reality for thousands is shown.

Click on their photos for short video clips on YouTube.

Solvent based glue is the street child's international answer to hunger, lonelyness and the cold. Beg a few coins and go straight to your friendly store where a friendly seller is more that willing to accomodate.

Teenager, Homeless and Pregnant. Many of the street children are simply told to leave, "I don't want you anymore, or I can't afford you." Parental alcoholism is high. Sometimes they run from abusive situations, sometimes they just run.

This boy lucked out - a meal on the sidewalk is like a holiday feast to many of us.

Go back and click on each of the three photos in turn to see the reality in short YouTube video clips.

How has this happened in a population that is 99% literate? Simply put, for centuries the land that is now called
Ukraine was dominated in one way or the other by first the Russian Tsars and then the Soviet Union.

These entities ruled by using secret police and force.
August 24, 1991 the Union was definitely falling apart and the Ukrainians voted for independence.

It hasn't been easy. The entire social, economic and political structures had been inherited and they no longer functioned, if they ever really did under dictatorial rulers. Now the Ukrainians are digging out and are on the track to success.

Many problems came along from the old to the new system and what you have just seen is one of them. It will take time, hard work and good will to change fundamental mind sets.

Meanwhile, what can we do to help these children is the question before us.

It’s easy, first decide if you want to help. Then do as I do, look in your billfold or checking account and decide if you have twenty dollars that you can spare. (or whatever is appropriate in your currency)

If so, click on some of the photos below, read what the people are doing and send an organization a  twenty .

I was ready to push the publish button for this page but decided to check the time and temperature in Kyiv. It's 6:45 in the morning there, December 6, 2007.

Highs and lows for the day are predicted to be from minus one degree C to plus one degree which is hovering around freezing. There did not appear to be any snow on the Kyiv street. I'm wondering what the temperature will be there February 6.

With the following two links you can check the time and temperature in Kyiv and look at the weather in real time.
