Ela's Hands

Please watch a video clip by Sonia Paz Baron-Vine about Elvira Besedena.

Ela was born March 24, 1990 in Zaporizhzhya and abandoned in the hospital nursery.

From there she was taken to the special care of Director Galina Galkina at the baby orphanage, Solnishko, in Zaporizhzhya. She called Director Galkina mother.

Several years later Ela was moved to the orphanage in Tsurupinks for handicapped and deformed children. Sonia met Ela there in 1998 and that is when we will enter their lives.

Please click on the photo to open the video.

Be part of creating a wonderful future for an orphan girl named Ela.

Ela ages out and graduates from the orphanage in June of 2008. Director Galkina has kindly offered to help bring Ela back to Zaporizhzhya and care for her until the
USA releases a special visa.

At that time Sonia will go to
Ukraine and bring her to her home in California USA, which will be very soon.

Dear Friends,

The reason for this video is to tell the story of a deformed orphan girl in Ukraine.

Her name is ELA and she is 18 years old.

Once you see the video, if you can help her, click on the following link to go to the Mellow Swan Foundation secure donation page. Twenty dollars for Ela has been the standard gift.

Learn about Sonia

Please learn more about our friend Sonia and what she does. It would seem that Sonia lives a life of elegant ease because she is an elegant lady.

But my friends, she has had some rough bumps and bruises not of her doing and undeserved. She has suffered polio, earned a gold record in
Chile, heard applause and she has been crushed.

Sonia seems to get up and dust herself off, smile her special smile and move on. She gives of herself until it hurts and then gives some more.

After my asking her two or three times Sonia permits me to share: ‘‘Ok here is a bit about me’’

Sonia is a Chilean born American citizen

and the mother of three biological adult children, the grandma of two little boys and the adoptive mother of three "Chernobyl Children".

All of the orphans were born with deformities due to their parent's exposure to the radiation cloud of Chernobyl.

Sonia has made her life mission saving the abandoned deformed orphans, first by adopting three orphans in critical need of medical help.

After seeing the great need for medical care while in Ukraine in 2004 she founded Mellowswan Foundation, a medical charitable non profit foundation.

Right now, Sonia and some friends are trying to bring Ela, an 18 year old deformed orphan girl, from
Ukraine to the USA to have corrective surgery on her hands and feet.

Was it worth it? You decide.

Laila and Samantha
Laila and Samantha

Please allow me to introduce two new members of Sonia’s team, people I am very proud of.

Daughter Samantha, registered nurse and single mother of two, volunteered to join Sonia.

She sent a strong cosponsor application to the Department of Homeland Security. That is the reason I know the visa will be forthcoming.

Eight year old Laila has “adopted” Ela as a “special sister”. To begin participation she went shopping with me for her 8th birthday. (I had no idea what to give her.)

Laila chose a two dollar toy bear for herself. Then she chose shoes, socks, underwear, jeans, belt and a shirt for an unknown friend in Zaporozhye Orphanage #3.

When we returned home she took a nicer stuffed bear from her collection and put it in the box.

You are sincerely invited to join Samantha and Laila on Ela’s team. If you missed the short video please click on Ela's open hands just below. Join eight year old Laila and email Sonia with your pledge of help.

After watching the video I hope you agree that  if you were to help, now  would be the best time. Please click on the following link to the Mellow Swan Foundation secure donation page.

A twenty dollar donation doesn't sound like much, but if enough of us give it will be a blessing to Ela. She will never be able to thank you for helping to change her life.
